How Our Directory Works
Our facility directory is built from public, official data, not from advertising. Here is exactly where the information comes from, how often we update it, and what it can and cannot tell you.
Where our data comes from
For assisted living and adult care homes, we use the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR), the state agency that licenses these facilities and publishes their star ratings, license numbers, and bed counts. For skilled nursing facilities, we use Medicare Care Compare from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which publishes overall star ratings, health inspection results, staffing levels, and quality measures, alongside the same NC DHSR licensing records. Addresses, phone numbers, and website links come from official listings and each facility public information, written in our own words.
How often we update
We review the state and federal data periodically and correct our pages when ratings or licensing change. Those ratings can change between our reviews, so we always encourage you to confirm the current rating on the official DHSR and Medicare Care Compare tools before making a decision.
What the data can and cannot tell you
Ratings and inspection scores are useful signals, not final verdicts. A high rating does not guarantee the right fit, and a lower one does not always mean poor care today. Staffing levels, recent inspections, and an in-person visit matter just as much. We list every licensed facility in the county, stronger and weaker, so you can compare honestly rather than see only the ones that paid to appear.
